LESLEY CARPENTER
Artist · Image Theory
Lesley Carpenter is a self-taught fluid artist whose work is driven by color, emotion, movement, and experimentation. She begins each piece with a palette and a feeling, allowing the unpredictable movement of paint to shape compositions that are distinctly her own.
THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK
Lesley began taking art seriously later in life after being inspired by John’s creative process. Rather than following the same approach, she became interested in experimenting in her own way—using different techniques, materials, and color combinations to develop work that felt distinctly hers.
She works exclusively in fluid art and is particularly drawn to the unpredictability of the medium. Her paintings typically begin with a color palette and a feeling rather than a predetermined image. From there, she allows the paint to move and interact, responding to the patterns and forms that develop across the canvas.
Color is central to Lesley’s work. She often gravitates toward brighter palettes and specialty paints, using shimmer, contrast, and unexpected combinations to create movement, depth, and atmosphere. Although fluid art naturally involves an element of chance, she also enjoys researching techniques and materials when she has a particular effect or idea she wants to explore.
Lesley is inspired most strongly by color and emotion. She does not necessarily want viewers to see one specific image in her paintings. Instead, she hopes the work transports them somewhere else—whether to an imagined place or to a pleasant memory of their own.
COLOR, FEELING & MOVEMENT
“I begin with a color palette and a feeling, then let the paint decide where we go.”
